What should I do if I'm a victim of property theft? |
- Download this form...[under construction].... Fill out this form with as much information as possible, drop off at local pawn stores, antique shops, and police department. (Many times a pawnbroker is the best ally you have for retrieving your property.)
- File a police report, if you do not file a report you will get virtually no help from most police departments. Police are not here to protect your property!
- Keep in mind; the more proactive you are the better chance you have of getting your items back.
- Take police report and printout of missing items to your insurance company.
- Be persistent; keep checking used inventories at flea markets, pawnshops, garage sales, and local classifieds
Pawnshops, like many financial institutions, cannot give personally sensitive information to anyone other than law enforcement. Although there are a few bad apples in every industry, pawnshops do not want to be in possession of stolen property or deal with thieves, it is a waste of time, and money.
Remember the more information you have about your property the less hassle and better chance you will have at getting your things back
